Norwood Pen Pal Program: Social Distance Edition

October 19, 2020 - April 23, 2021

Hundreds of seniors have been isolated and cut off from their regular social activities due to high risks of contracting COVID-19. Isolation is very hard for everyone, but it’s especially challenging for senior citizens in care-homes with limited contact outside their residences. NAITSA is offering a volunteer opportunity for students to connect with seniors and provide them with a social outlet during these difficult times.

The Norwood Pen Pal Program provides NAIT students with the opportunity to communicate with a senior citizen and grow a connection the good old fashioned way – through pen and paper!  All students interested in participating will be linked up with an individual at CapitalCare Norwood with similar interests.  In taking on this volunteer opportunity, you will be expected to exchange one letter a month until the end of the school year.  The total time commitment would be 5-10 hours between now and April 30, 2021.

This volunteer opportunity is a great way to help enrich both your life and that of a care patient. Not only will you help give someone in isolation something to look forward to, but you’ll also have the chance to meet a new person and learn about their interesting history and heritage.

To join and be matched with a senior, please RSVP to this event. One of our team members will be in contact with you to arrange your match. If you have any further questions, please feel free to email us at naitsavolunteers@nait.ca!
