Tired of the same boring snacks? Try out these snacks, a NAITSA Food Center share, and they’re simple as 1,2,3.


PB & Jelly Bars

Simple and nutritious and a great grab & go snack…or breakfast.

– 3 cups of rolled oats or be creative and substitute a cup of oats for Rice Krispies or your favourite cereal, quick oats will work
– ½ cup peanut butter
– ½ cup jelly or jam, choose your favourite flavour. I love me grape jelly
– ¼ cup hot water
– ¼ Tsp. salt
– Butter or vegetable oil

Heat oven to 350 degrees F., butter or oil 8” X 11” baking pan. In a large bowl, add all the oats and cereal. In a small pot, add all the peanut butter and half the jelly, water, and salt. Stir over low heat until smooth.

Pour the heated mixture over the oats and cereal mixing until all are coated. Dump the mixture onto the oiled pan and press it until even. Spread the remaining jelly over the top.

Bake for approximately 25 minutes until it is toasty brown around the edges. Let the bars cool in the pan for about 45 minutes, then slice into bars and enjoy!


Roasted Chickpeas

– 1 can chickpeas
– ½ Tbsp. salt/ seasoning
– 1 Tbsp. olive oil

For a simpler snack, drain and pat dry one can of chickpeas, toss with olive oil and coarse salt, then bake at 400 degrees F on a rimmed cookie sheet, occasionally tossing until crispy, for about an hour…crispy, crunchie and delish!


Chocolate Covered Raisins

– ¼ cup dark or milk chocolate chips
– ½ Tbsp. coconut oil
– 1.5 cup raisins
– Parchment paper

In a medium bowl microwave, the chocolate chips and coconut oil for about one minute, stir well until all clumps are dissolved. Add ½ cup raisins and stir until coated. Continue to add raisins. Pour raisin mixture onto a pan or plate lined with parchment paper and spread into a thin layer. Freeze for ten minutes and then break apart into portions. Store in fridge.


Veggie Buffalo Wings

– Celery sticks, or any vegetable that you love
– Favourite hot sauce
– Favourite creamy dip

For the simplest snack, substitute chicken pieces for celery sticks. Dip the celery stick into buffalo sauce and then into chunky bleu cheese dressing or creamy ranch, voilà!
