What is an Ook?

Known as the Inuktitut word for Snowy Owl, the Ook is a popular Inuit toy with a large head, big eyes and tiny black claws or talons. Originally it was made from wolf or sealskin.

The Federal Department of Northern Affairs and Natural Resources, now called Indian and Northern Affairs Canada, presented our mascot to us in 1964. Every sports team at NAIT is known as the Ooks.

Former president Brent Constantin designed the current Ook blue plush toy in 2008.
