Over the past academic year, we, your NAIT Students’ Association (NAITSA) have been hard at work enhancing the overall student experience! In August, we proudly launched our new NAITSA logo and incorporated a speech bubble throughout the NAITSA brand.
NAITSA’s Executive Council Team, consists of four amazing women. From left to right, Karen Velasco: VP External, Naomi Pela: President, Brenda Needham: VP Academic and Willow Shelley: VP Student Services. As an EC, each representative worked extremely hard to advocate for the students and, represent their voice! This includes 80 hours of EC training and involvement with over 30 committees,just to name a few!
It was an exciting year for the NAITSA events team! Ooks Life was born and launched in January 2018, with focus on helping create an unforgettable experience for NAIT students on campus. This initiative has helped promote NAITSA events to NAIT students and build involvement and community throughout NAIT. Visit @ookslife to stay up to date on upcoming NAITSA events.
Over Reading Break, artist Tyler Hochhalter painted an interactive mural in CAT Building for students to channel their inner Ook and share their spirit online. This great initiative was created by our Ooks Life team! We encourage students to continue to share their Ook photos by hashtagging #NAITSA and #OoksLife.
We know it can be hard studying on an empty stomach, which is why your Campus Activities Board and Executive Council took the time to wheel around campus and hand out FREE FOOD to NAIT students. Over 1873 students were served treats and refreshments by the popular Treat Trolley!
In September 2018, we kicked off the start of the school year with a giant welcome back party called Nest Fest! From live music to giant inflatables, over 3,000 students attended the festival held outside in CAT Quad.
The Grand Opening of our new Peer Support Program launched January 30th, 2019, on Bell Let’s Talk Day! Peer Support is an anonymous and confidential supportive listening service for students. It is on a walk-in basis, and is located in J209B on NAIT Main Campus.
This year’s Senate consisted of 16 passionate and motivated elected students representing nine like-minded program groups. They were hard at work passing bylaws, approving the annual budget and holding our Executive Council accountable.
The NAITSA Service Hub is here to make your time at NAIT that much easier. Through the Food Centre, over 539 hampers were distributed to students in need. Thank you to all the staff and students who continue to donate to the NAITSA Service Hub, year after year!
Open Educational Resources are openly licensed educational materials that are made freely available for public use. OERs take a variety of forms including, assignments, quizzes, videos and even full textbooks. Your NAITSA Executives have been actively petitioning OER to be on campus!
Under the direction of your Executive Council, NAITSA teamed up with NAIT Scheduling to find quiet study spaces in CAT Building for students to use. Leading up to exams, students have been given access to additional study rooms to fill the void of limited study spaces in CAT.
Over the course of the 2018-2019 academic year, there has been over 150 student volunteers dedicating their time to making a difference here at NAIT! Because of their efforts, the number of volunteer hours has exceeded over 750! Way to go NAIT students!

NAIT Students’ Association provides students with over 100 microwaves across NAIT campuses paid for by your NAITSA student fee. We provide the most microwaves on a campus in Alberta. Find the one closest to you!
