Now Hiring – Graphics Editor at the NAIT Nugget for 2025-26

What you’ll do:
- Lead visual storytelling: Create compelling artwork, illustrations, and graphics for print and online in a variety of styles.
- Enhance news & features: Work with writers and editors to design visuals that complement and elevate stories. We’re looking for someone who can adapt to different styles, tones, and concepts.
- Design for print & web: Help shape the look of our publication, from newspaper layouts to digital content. You’ll create covers, illustrations, and comics for all of our monthly print issues, along with graphic for the website as needed.
- Manage a creative workflow: Balance multiple projects, meet deadlines, and ensure a consistent visual standard. You’ll be working on multiple projects at a time, so you need to be confident you can keep yourself on track.
- Experiment & innovate: Find new ways to engage readers through creative visuals, infographics, and artistic storytelling. Creativity is key!
- Guide contributors: You’ll lead the team of art contributors, giving them assignments and instruction on what you’re looking for, helping them refine their craft and pushing their creative boundaries. This includes answering their questions, explaining how the Nugget works, offering support or guidance where needed.
What we’re looking for:
- Focus on digital illustrations, with experience working independently within reasonable deadlines
- Strong ideation/conceptualization skills: final ideas will be approved by leadership, but we want you to be comfortable bringing creative ideas to the table
- Someone who takes feedback and direction well: there are huge opportunities to grow as an artist in this role, so you should be open to feedback when necessary
- Working understanding of illustrator/photoshop: we use the Adobe suite to design our print issues, so you should be familiar with the language of design and have the technical know-how to submit finished pieces
- BONUS POINTS: Understanding of basic typography, including working knowledge of InDesign with emphasis on layouts
Qualifications:
- You’re a current NAIT student enrolled in classes from September 2025-April 2026. This is a part-time, salary position that begins August 1, 2025 and ends April 15, 2026. You must be enrolled in classes in both the Fall 2025 and Winter 2026 terms to be eligible. The salary for this position is $500/month.
- Strong writing and fact-checking skills
- Available for a minimum of 10 hours per week, starting August 1, 2025
- Previous experience with the Nugget is a bonus
