Your well-being is not one-size-fits-all

Student life comes with its highs and challenges, and your well-being matters through it all. This page is designed to help you explore supports that meet you where you’re at, across key dimensions of student wellness: financial, social, emotional, academic and physical.

Additionally, the page has information for Indigenous supports, and help-lines available. This list is not exhaustive. Feel free to visit the Peer Support Center in J209 on Main Campus for more resources if you cannot find what you need here.

Whether you’re looking for tools to manage your money, ways to build meaningful connections, support for your mental health, or tips to care for your body, you’ll find resources here to help you feel balanced, supported, and empowered.

Financial Supports

These financial supports offer a range of resources to help students manage money and navigate financial challenges. They include emergency funding for unexpected situations, access to loans, grants, scholarships, and bursaries to support education costs, as well as tools and guidance for budgeting, saving, and managing debt. Together, they aim to provide both immediate relief and long-term financial knowledge to help students build stability and make informed financial decisions.

NAITSA Emergency Short Term Loan

Eligible full-time on campus credit students facing unforeseen financial emergencies may qualify for a short-term loan from the NAIT Students’ Association. Part-time students, online only students, and apprentices are not eligible. Access more information here.

NAIT Student Awards and Funding

NAIT offers a wide range of financial support, including loans and grants through government programs, as well as scholarships, bursaries, and other awards based on factors like academic achievement, financial need, and leadership. Students can apply through a centralized system that matches them with relevant opportunities, and additional funding may be available for specific groups such as Indigenous students, apprentices, or those in upgrading programs.Visit the link here to learn more.

Government of Canada

The Government of Canada provides a comprehensive collection of free, unbiased resources that anyone can use to support their financial well-being. With tools such as a budget planner, paying down your debt, ways to save and much more you can take control of your finances one step at a time. The Government of Canada also has created a page solely dedicated to planning your budget as a student! With an idea of what costs to include in your budget, sources of income recommendations, and information on paying back your student debt, there is something for every student looking to understand more about how to plan financially. Credit Counselling Society
The Credit Counselling Society is an accredited non-profit that helps Canadians solve their money problems. We do this by providing free credit counselling, low-cost debt solutions, and education to help you manage your money better. “Our goal is to empower you with the knowledge and tools for building the financial success that everyone deserves. We’re here to help you through your difficult times and towards a better future.”

Social Supports

These social supports provide students with opportunities to build connections, find community, and feel a sense of belonging both on and off campus. Through events, clubs, cultural and spiritual services, and inclusive spaces, students can meet peers, explore their identities, and access supportive environments. Together, these resources promote social well-being by encouraging engagement, inclusion, and meaningful relationships within the NAIT community and beyond.

Ooks Life App and Events

NAITSA’s Ooks Life Team hosts around 180 campus events a year! The Ooks Life brand and platform is a centralized hub for NAIT students to learn about different involvement opportunities and events across campus. Events are a great way to socialize and meet new people! We also have the Ooks Life app, giving students instant access to event information as well as categorized group chats to chat with their fellow peers.

Campus Clubs

Make the most of your time at NAIT with NAITSA Campus Clubs. Clubs offer invaluable opportunities to engage with your peers, explore new social and cultural landscapes, and connect with your campus community. NAIT Spiritual Well-being

Spiritual well-being can be a key part of student success. NAIT’s Spiritual Care Providers are faith leaders who represent several communities of faith and are open and available to all members of the NAIT community, regardless of religious denomination.The Spiritual Care Providers provide guidance and support to NAIT students wishing to explore issues of faith and spirituality, regardless of religious denomination or level of spiritual commitment. They act as a resource on spiritual matters and encourage thoughtful reflection and dialogue.
Find a quiet space for meditation or prayer.
NAIT has space set aside for personal reflection, observance and spiritual growth.

NAIT Centre for Community and Belonging

NAIT is committed to providing you with a safe and inclusive learning environment. The Center for Community and Belonging provides programs, services and resources that help students:

  • build community
  • experience a sense of belonging
  • learn about different perspectives, identities, and cultures
  • thrive in a diverse community

The Center for Community and Belonging also supports and promotes increased understanding of marginalization and equitable, inclusive practices across NAIT.

NAIT International and Intercultural Center

NAIT’s International and Intercultural Community Centre (IICC) is open to all students and staff and is the hub for international and intercultural community-building, capacity development, outreach, and connection. The IICC serves as a “home away from home” for international students and a safe space on campus where all students can find community. The Centre hosts events, activities, and programs, including international peer groups and workshops on intercultural competence.

Students can also access the International Academic Advisors through the IICC. These trained immigration professionals (RISIAs and RCICs) support students by answering questions about study permits, working permissions, getting settled in Canada, and bringing family to Canada.

Pride Centre Edmonton
The Pride Centre of Edmonton provides a non-judgmental, welcoming space where people of all attractions, identities, and expressions can be themselves, find support, meet new people, and be part of a caring community. The Centre offers resources, counselling, and sensitive and expert information and referrals for those seeking support. The Centre also organizes programs that prioritize Queer Joy to help improve the social, mental, and physical health of the 2SLGBTQIA+ community.

Mental Health Supports

These counselling and mental health supports offer students a range of options for emotional support, from professional counselling and peer-based listening services to specialized community organizations. They provide help for general mental health concerns as well as specific experiences like trauma, ADHD, and eating disorders, while also offering education, resources, and support groups. Together, these services aim to create accessible, inclusive, and supportive pathways for students to seek help, build coping skills, and improve their overall well-being.

NAIT Counselling

The counselling office at NAIT offers free counselling sessions on an appointment basis, as well as urgent walk-ins when necessary. The counsellors are highly trained social workers and psychologists available on main campus in W111PB from 8:30am-4:00pm. To book an appointment or learn more click here.

Peer Support

Not quite ready to chat with a professional? Peer Support has your back! Peer Support is a confidential, anonymous, active listening service. The service is offered to students by highly trained peer support workers who are students just like you! Visit the Peer Support Center during our operating hours in J209 or visit our webpage to learn more.

Sexual Assault Center Edmonton (SACE)
The Sexual Assault Centre of Edmonton (SACE) exists to support people impacted by sexual violence and engage communities to promote respect and uphold a culture of consent. SACE is a not-for-profit charitable organization that supports children, youth, and adults who have experienced sexual abuse or assault, and educates the public about sexual violence. People impacted by sexual violence are believed and offered caring guidance to heal, and the attitudes and behaviours that contribute to a community free of sexual violence are developed and sustained.
Saffron Center
Saffron Center is a non-profit charitable organization working to support the healing and empowerment of those who have been affected by sexual violence. Delivering sexual assault services since 2000, we are a dedicated team committed to creating a community free from sexual violence where everyone is treated with dignity and respect.
Canadian Mental Health Association of Edmonton
CMHA is the leading community mental health organization in the region, delivering key services in the areas of mental health support, education and training, wayfinding, and collective action. This supports individuals, families, communities, and the social sector.
They have a page and PDF explaining anxiety disorders and how to support yourself.
Center for ADHD Awareness Canada
They improve the lives of Canadians affected by ADHD through awareness, education, and advocacy. From delivering educational programs, support groups or advocating for fairer treatment and equal rights, we aim to include the voices of people from all ethnicities, race, color, religion, ancestry, national origin, citizenship; gender, sexual orientations, gender identity or expression, genetic disposition, disabilities, neurodiversity, age, physical/mental ability, status as a veteran, marital status, parental status, lifestyle choice and socioeconomic status of all persons or any other protected category under federal, provincial and municipal law . We are committed to creating and maintaining an atmosphere of openness, trust, and safety where all attitudes, beliefs, values, and behaviors can be freely explored and discussed.
Eating Disorder Support Network
EDSNA offers professionally-facilitated support groups to people over the age of 18. Groups serve those affected by eating disorders/disordered eating, and caregivers (parents, partners, and loved ones). They also maintain lists of resources, public- and private-healthcare providers, and other tools that might be helpful as you navigate -or help someone navigate- eating disorder recovery.

Physical Wellness Supports

These physical wellness supports provide students with resources to stay active, safe, and healthy while meeting basic needs. They include fitness and recreation programs, on-campus health and safety services, and access to medical care, food support, and essential resources. Additional community organizations offer support for housing, poverty, legal concerns, and crisis situations. Together, these services promote overall physical well-being by helping students maintain their health, safety, and daily living needs.

Athletics and Recreation

We know that each person’s wellness journey is unique and Athletics and Recreation offer a variety of programming designed to meet you where you’re at. NAIT Athletics and Recreation aim to build community for students through recreation and are here to help you care for your well-being.

Their current offerings include:

Their office is located in E131 – the Gymnasium in E140 – the fitness center in S006.

NAIT Protective Services
NAIT Protective Services (“NPS” for short) has many programs in place to protect the safety of the NAIT community, including: NAIT Safe Walk Program, Campus Crime Stoppers, Help Phones around the main campus perimeter. NPS can be reached from any phone by dialing 780.471.7477.
Office of Student Conduct and Accountability

NAIT is committed to providing a learning environment that supports respect and safety within our community. Every student has the right to an inclusive learning environment that respects NAIT’s values and is free from discrimination and the right to a learning environment that is safe, free from violence and harassment.

Anyone who has applied to, been admitted to or has enrolled in a NAIT course or program is accountable to the NAIT Student Rights and Responsibilities policy as well as the academic regulations and procedures. All students are accountable to knowing and abiding by their student responsibilities as outlined in the NAIT Student Rights and Responsibilities Policy.

Those impacted by non-academic misconduct of a NAIT student have multiple support and response options available. The Student Conduct & Accountability Office (OSCA) receives complaints of non-academic student misconduct. A Student Conduct Officer will provide information on possible next steps and procedural options for addressing concerns when a student has not met their responsibilities. All options are grounded in principles of fairness and natural justice. NAIT’s preference for addressing complaints is through the Alternative Dispute Resolution process, when possible.

NAIT Health Services

Health Services is a team of healthcare professionals and support staff that strive to provide friendly, accessible services to the NAIT community.

Services available at Main Campus (Room S105):

  • First aid for injuries including dressing applications, steri-strips, tensor bandages, and ice packs.
  • Incident reporting and Workers’ Compensation Board reporting for occupational injuries that occur at NAIT or during a WIL Placement.
  • Students and apprentices are covered by WCB for work-related incidents.
  • All first aid and injuries must be reported to Health Services within 24 hours through:
    • An in-person assessment in Health Services (Room S105).
    • myCority reporting at https://nait.my.cority.com.
  • Urgent care for medical emergencies including chest pain, shortness of breath or allergic reactions.
  • First aid for mental health emergencies.
  • Vital signs assessment if feeling faint or dizzy.
  • Immunization record review for students in the School of Health and Life Sciences and Biological Sciences programs.

Students at Patricia Campus and Souch Campus can obtain first aid treatment through first aid certified instructors and on-site NAIT Protective Services. They can also contact a Health Services nurse by calling 780.471.8733.

Emergency Food Center

The NAITSA Emergency Food Center is for students who have experienced an emergency and need support for food for the next few days. The food hampers have 5-7 days worth of non-perishable food for a student in crisis. Though we understand that groceries are expensive, this service is not free food, it is for students experiencing an emergency and they don’t know what they will eat in the next 24 hours. Students in need can visit the NAITSA office to find out how to fill out the form.

Elizabeth Fry Society

For women leaving domestic situations where they may need resources to do so.

The program offers:

  • One-on-one appointments to meet needs through available resources and referrals to other agencies and organizations
  • A clothing closet that you can get clothes from
  • Hygiene kits as available which can include shampoo, soap, deodorant, menstrual supplies
Edmonton’s Food bank
They provide food and services to empower individuals struggling with food security and poverty.
Bissell Center
Everything the Bissell Centre does is grounded in its vision of eliminating poverty. Bissell Centre follows four strategies that provide a clear path to enhance and expand our poverty elimination efforts. The strategies address what we do and how we do it, and are focused on ensuring Bissell Centre achieves the highest standards of operational excellence.
Hope Mission
Hope Mission is a Christian social care agency that provides aid to those experiencing poverty, homelessness, and addiction in Alberta, Canada. They offer a range of services including emergency shelters, addiction recovery programs, and support for children and families. Hope Mission operates in Edmonton, Calgary, Red Deer, and Wetaskiwin.
Student Legal Services of Edmonton
Student Legal Services (SLS) is a pro-bono legal clinic run primarily by law students at the University of Alberta. For over 50 years, our dayleaders and volunteers have provided free legal assistance to low-income adults and undergraduate students in the Edmonton area. We also contribute to legal reform and legal education efforts as they impact poverty law issues. If you are a student or low-income individual needing assistance with a legal matter within our areas of practice, you may be eligible for our services. Please contact the relevant project for more information.

Academic Supports

These academic supports help students succeed in their studies by providing resources, guidance, and personalized assistance. They include accommodations for learning needs, support with understanding academic rights and policies, access to research tools and study spaces, and course-specific tutoring. Together, these services aim to remove barriers, enhance learning, and support students in achieving their academic goals.

NAIT Learning Services

NAIT Learning Services provides individualized and ongoing support to assist students with disabilities and those encountering barriers to their education. This can include providing accommodations such as:

  • Exam accommodations
  • Alternate format course materials
  • Assistive and adaptive technology
  • Learning strategies support
  • Interpreter and note-taking services
  • Reduced course load
  • Access to academic aides and other specialized services

Student Academic Rights Advisor
The NAITSA Student Academic Rights Advisor offers free, confidential, non-partisan support to students seeking guidance regarding their academic challenges. They promote fairness to ensure students understand their rights and responsibilities as members of NAIT’s community. They are well-versed in NAIT’s policies, procedures, and regulations, and are available to meet with students experiencing barriers related to their academic rights and responsibilities. Located at the NAITSA Office (Room O-108). Students can book an appointment or walk-in to the office to see if they are available.
NAIT Library
The NAIT Library is a hub of learning, exploring, and creating. They support the NAIT community through access to resources, collaborative and exploratory spaces, cutting edge technology, and programming that supports academic excellence and lifelong learning.
Nimbus Tutoring
The Nimbus Learning tutoring program is a course-specific tutoring service providing support at your convenience. Tutors go through a rigorous approval process, which includes verification that they have achieved 75% or higher in the courses that they would like to tutor. NAITSA has partnered up with Nimbus Learning, a mobile learning platform provider, to ensure that we can easily provide support for as many courses as possible at NAIT while making the booking, communication and scheduling process as easy as can be.

Indigenous Supports

These Indigenous supports provide a welcoming and inclusive space for students to connect, learn, and share experiences. They promote cultural understanding, community building, and student success by creating an environment where Indigenous culture and traditions are respected and encouraged, while offering support both academically and personally.

Nîsôhkamâtotân Centre
The Nîsôhkamâtotân Centre is a community gathering place where Indigenous and non-Indigenous students can gather to network, study and share their post-secondary learning experiences. It is a place where culture and tradition are welcome and encouraged.

The centre is an integral part of the overall NAIT community and is committed to ensuring Indigenous student success both inside and outside of the classroom. We encourage you to drop by anytime during office hours and experience the warm, welcoming environment the centre has to offer. Located in room E121.

The Edmonton Native Healing Centre empowers individuals to grow stronger and creates vibrant community relationships while honoring the culture through Spiritual development centered in the heart of the Creator. Their info can be found here.

Native Counselling Services of Alberta
NCSA has been providing programs and services designed and delivered for Indigenous people, by Indigenous people in Alberta for over 50 years. Native Counselling Services of Alberta’s Mission is to promote the resilience of the Indigenous individual and family, through programs and services that are grounded in reclaiming our interconnectedness, reconciliation of relationships and self-determination.
