NAITSA Senate Approves $225,000 for Indigenous Student Bursary

Feb 28, 2025 | Governance, News

NAITSA is proud to announce that the NAITSA Senate has approved the allocation of $225,000 to establish the NAITSA Indigenous Student Bursary. This bursary is dedicated to supporting returning Indigenous students facing financial barriers, ensuring they have the resources needed to continue their education. This initiative aligns with NAITSA’s commitment to truth and reconciliation and fostering a more equitable and inclusive campus environment.

The investment will be placed into an endowment fund with a target annual return of 4%, funding multiple $1,500 bursaries each year. By preserving the principal, this structure ensures ongoing support for Indigenous students.

To ensure this bursary meets the unique needs of Indigenous students, NAITSA will work closely with the Nîsôhkamâtotân Centre to determine eligibility criteria and the application process. Our goal is to develop a fair and accessible framework that provides meaningful financial relief to returning Indigenous students who need it most. More details on the bursary’s structure and distribution will be shared once finalized.

This initiative reflects NAITSA’s ongoing commitment to breaking down financial barriers and investing in student success. We look forward to sharing further updates as we work alongside the Nîsôhkamâtotân Centre to bring this bursary to life. In the meantime, we thank the student body for their continued support in making NAIT a more inclusive and supportive learning environment for all.
