NAITSA expands support for students amid economic uncertainty

Feb 10, 2025 | Governance, News

Dear NAIT Students,

We know that recent economic challenges, including the uncertainty surrounding the U.S.-Canada trade dispute, have raised concerns about rising costs. As your student association, NAITSA is committed to taking meaningful action to support student affordability and well-being.

Extending the GST Holiday at The Nest Eatery

To help ease financial pressures, we are pleased to announce that NAITSA’s Senate has approved an extension of the GST holiday at The Nest Eatery. This initiative, originally set to expire on February 15, will now continue until the restaurant closes for the summer in June 2025. (Please note that The Nest will be closed Feb 17-21 for Reading Break.)

NAITSA’s Broader Response to Economic Uncertainty

Beyond this initiative, we are actively working to protect students from potential impacts of the trade dispute by:

  • Reviewing NAITSA’s supply chains to keep student services affordable.
  • Engaging vendors and partners to minimize price increases.
  • Collaborating with NAIT and other student associations to advocate for student needs.
  • Providing clear updates as the situation develops.

We’re Here for You

NAITSA remains focused on ensuring students have access to affordable services and resources, even during times of economic uncertainty. If you have questions, concerns, or suggestions, please reach out to us at askNAITSA@nait.ca.

We will continue working hard to support you.

Sincerely,

NAITSA
