Position: Wildlife Helpline Advisor

Time Period: Ongoing, minimum commitment of 6 months

Hours: 12 hours (three 4-hour shifts) a month

Start Date: March 2026 with mandatory training on February 28th, 2026 from 12:00pm – 2:00pm

WILDNorth is seeking enthusiastic people who love wildlife, the outdoors, and have a strong desire to learn and work well in a team environment. WILDNorth is a non-partisan, charitable organization that provides compassionate care for injured and orphaned wildlife and educates the public on the importance of wildlife in our community. We provide a high standard of care to a wide variety of native and migratory species. Approximately 80% of our patients are wild birds (waterfowl, birds of prey, songbirds) and 20% small mammals (squirrels, porcupines, fox).

Duties:

  • Working under the supervision of the WILDRescue Manager, volunteers will assist with the following:
  • Be responsible for our Wildlife Helpline voicemail and respond to calls
  • Answer questions about WILDNorth, our facilities, and injured or orphaned wildlife
  • Advise callers on the best course of action given their scenario
  • Dispatch WILDRescuers and Wildlife Transportation Volunteers
  • Be responsible for assisting members of the public at the door admitting wildlife, taking donations and making merchandise sales
  • Remain in close contact with WILDNorth staff while on shift
  • Complete other administrative or light cleaning duties as needed
  • Volunteers are required to follow all WILDNorth policy, procedures and protocols. Volunteers will also interact and work with other facility volunteers, summer students and casual relief staff.

Qualifications:

  • Signed Volunteer Agreement and Confidentiality Agreement
  • Recent Police Information Check
  • Helpline Training
  • Comfortable talking on the phone
  • Ability to ask questions to staff should you not know the answer to provide to a caller
  • Enjoy learning new information

Expectations:

  • Follow staff direction
  • Complete all duties safely
  • Treat everyone with respect
  • Use Volgistics for scheduling and logging hours

Conditions:

  • All positions are voluntary; no salary is offered. Housing and transportation are not provided.
  • Minimum commitment of 3 shifts/ month (preferably 1/ week) for a minimum of 6 months

Flexible Schedule

Shifts are 4 hours long (9-1; 1-5)
