The Nest Eatery at NAIT – Temporary Closure

Sep 3, 2026 | Press Release

The Nest will remain temporarily closed while we work with NAIT to investigate concerns with the kitchen environment following an incident today involving heat-related symptoms and the detection of carbon monoxide. Two members of our team were transported to hospital as a precaution.

The Nest operates in a NAIT-owned facility, where significant work was completed by NAIT over the summer to address longstanding kitchen ventilation and temperature concerns. During our first three days of operation this semester, however, we have continued to experience excessive temperatures in the kitchen. Today’s incident has made it clear that further investigation is required.

NAITSA is working with NAIT Facilities Management and Development (FMD) and appropriate technical professionals to determine what is happening, including the source of the carbon monoxide detected today and the performance of the kitchen’s ventilation and exhaust systems.

The immediate incident has been addressed and there is no ongoing emergency. However, The Nest will remain closed until we are satisfied that we can provide a safe and comfortable environment for our staff and customers.

We appreciate everyone’s patience and understanding. We will provide another update when we have more information about reopening.
