Treasurer – Strathcona County Crime Watch Association (SCCWA)

Are you a Business or Accounting student looking to gain meaningful university or post-secondary experience while making a positive impact in your community?

The Strathcona County Crime Watch Association (SCCWA) is seeking a dedicated volunteer to serve as Treasurer on our Board of Directors.

This position offers valuable hands-on experience in nonprofit financial management, governance, and regulatory compliance. It is an excellent opportunity to build your resume and expand your professional skills.

SCCWA will consider awarding an annual bursary to the successful applicant to assist with their post-secondary education.

About the Role:
The Treasurer contributes to the overall success of the Association by effectively managing all financial operations and ensuring compliance with applicable legislation and accounting standards.

Key Responsibilities Include:
• Attending monthly Executive Committee meetings in Sherwood Park.
• Preparing timely and accurate financial statements and reports in accordance with generally accepted accounting principles.
• Developing and maintaining financial systems, including cash management, accounts payable and receivable, general ledger, and credit control.
• Managing cash flow and preparing forecasts.
• Reconciling bank and investment accounts.
• Preparing annual budgets in consultation with the President and Executive Committee.
• Supporting funding applications and project budgets.
• Preparing financial reports for the Annual General Meeting.
• Ensuring compliance with statutory requirements, including CRA filings and annual charitable returns.
• Liaising with the Audit Committee and external auditors.
• Managing reporting and compliance for Casino funds, including preparation of required reports to the Alberta Gaming and Liquor Commission.
• Maintaining accurate and secure financial records in compliance with legislation.
• Participating in the SCCWA Annual General Meeting, Zone 5 Annual Meeting, and Provincial Rural Crime Watch AGM when available.

Ideal Candidate:
We encourage applications from students enrolled in Business, Accounting, Finance, or related programs. We also welcome individuals with accounting or bookkeeping experience and those interested in nonprofit governance and community safety.

Requirements:
• Accounting or bookkeeping experience.
• Current resume.
• 30-day Criminal Record Check.
• Letter of interest outlining your motivation to join the Board.
